Digital Restoration of the Cultural Heritages
|
The goal of our research is the reconstruction of the lost precious cultural heritages on cyberspace. We utilize the computer graphic technology to reproduce the cultural heritages to its original condition. With the advent of laser range scanners, cultural heritages around the world have been scanned, and their data are digitally archived. Computer graphic is introduced to integrate the digital data and the historical records, thus, it is possible to reproduce the cultural heritage to its condition as described in history. |Todaiji Birushana Butsu|Todaiji Temple has been burnt twice in the domestic wars, and its Great Buddha has been repaired for a number of times. Consequently, the current Great Buddha is different from the original one. Here, we reconstructed the original Buddha by morphing the current Buddha according to the size in the first building plan. ![]() Left: Present Buddha Image Past : Past Buddha Image |Hall of the Great Buddha|The hall at the foundation time was reconstructed from partial models of the main hall of Toshodaiji Temple and the miniature model of Todaiji hall.![]() Left: Partial models of the main hall of Toshodaiji Temple Right: Restored main hall |
